Heathrow had a record-breaking August becoming the first European airport ever to handle more than eight million monthly passengers.

Bosses there say this makes the case for a third runway even more pressing.

The Government is backing the proposals with options for expansion now being explored.

But the topic is a sore point for South West Londoners, and their mostly Lib Dem MPs who are opposing a third runway.

Luke Taylor is the MP for Sutton and Cheam; he also has a master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering.

He says cost effective options that don’t involve rebuilding the M25, may not be the most efficient.
