Runnymede council has been warned by the government over its significant debts.
The council, which covers Egham, Chertsey and Addlestone, has received what’s known as a best value notice.
Ministers say the council’s debts are 71 times the size of its spending power.
The authority sys most of its debt was locked in when interest rates were at rock-bottom, and it’s proud of its record of service and financial management.
