Former England international Sue Smith says research on serious knee injuries in women’s football needs to speed up.

It was confirmed yesterday that Chelsea forward Sam Kerr has damaged an anterior cruciate ligament during warm weather training.

England pair Leah Williamson and Beth Mead have both recently recovered from the injury, which is more common in women.
