Half of the external ducting and part of a rear lean-to roof were destroyed by the blaze in Lower Addiscombe Road early yesterday.
Although it was believed accidental, firefighters say it was likely caused by unattended cooking.
Crews extinguished it stressing the importance of never leaving cooking unattended and keeping hobs and extractor fans clean.
