A man in his 60s has been treated for burns following reports of an explosion in a van in central Wimbledon.

It e happened in Queen’s Road car park which sits under shopping centre, Wimbledon Quarter, and beside the train station.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“We were called at 10.06am on Monday 17 November to reports of an explosion on Queens Road, Wimbledon.

“We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car and an incident response officer. We also dispatched paramedics from our hazardous area response team (HART).

“We treated a man at the scene for burns and took him to hospital as a priority.”

An LFB spokesperson said:

“Firefighters are supporting partners at an incident at a shopping centre on Queen’s Road in Wimbledon.

“Around 100 people were evacuated from the shopping centre.

“The Brigade was called at 10.07. Two fire engines are attending the scene.”

The explosion is not being treated as terrorism.
