Hammersmith council has approved the first of two-planning application for a new neighbourhood on a 40-acre brownfield site.
The land was formerly home to the Earles Court Exhibition Centres and has been largely unused since 2015.
Kensington and Chelsea Borough are expected to make a decision on a second application next month.
