Croydon’s Executive Mayor says housing will not become an excuse for sacrificing the greenbelt.

It’s after a majority of Labour councillors backed plans by London Mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, to release sites for development.

Conservative, Jason Perry says the authority is already doing its part for increasing housing numbers in the borough.

35 councillors voted in favour of releasing land while 32 voted against.

Mayor Perry says he intends to fight the plans.
