Cattle have been released at Tolworth Nature Reserve as part of plans to re-wild the area.
For the first time in more than half a century, three Sussex cows have been introduced into Tolworth Court Farm Fields.
The initiative has seen the wetlands restored and the cattle will be free to roam.
Deputy Mayor of London, Mete Çoban, was given the job of releasing the cattle.
The release marks a major moment for Wild Tolworth, a large-scale rewilding project transforming the 42-hectare site into a biodiverse space for wildlife and the community.
The heritage breed cattle, and later this year pigs, will help restore the land through natural grazing, creating new habitats, increasing plant diversity and helping bring life back to the meadows.
Wetlands have already been reintroduced to support biodiversity and reduce flood risk, with more improvements planned.
