Nearly a thousand people have contributed £200,000 to Save Wimbledon Park’s campaign.
The group is trying to stop the All England Club’s plans to build a new stadium and tennis courts on the land which used to be a golf club.
Members of the group maintain there is a covenant on the land meaning it must be retained for public, recreational use.
The AELTC says there is not, nor has there ever been, a statutory trust affecting the former Wimbledon Park Golf Course land.
Merton Council, which is responsible for part of the land, gave the go ahead to the plans while Wandsworth Council refused them.
Mayor, Sadiq Khan, excused himself from the decision-making process on AELTC’s expansion application due to his public support for the plans in 2021.
Deputy London Mayor, Jules pipe, then approved them.
The Judicial Review is scheduled to take place at London’s High Court on July the 8th and 9th.
