Lambeth Council has teamed up with health charity LGBT HERO to launch the pilot scheme called Lambeth Allies.
It provides advice and training for business owners to support staff including details on how to report a hate crime.
The launch of the pilot comes after two men were stabbed in a homophobic attack outside a nightclub in Clapham in August.
