As we head into winter, people in Richmond are being urged to ditch their real coal fires and wood burning appliances.

The council says it’s in order to reduce dangerous air pollution across the borough.

They are known to be a source of PM2.5 particles which once inhaled can increase the risk of conditions like stroke, asthma and dementia.

Richmond is a Smoke Control Area meaning and emissions from even approved stoves and authorised fuels can now lead to fines.
