Firefighters were called to a property along Ongar Road just after 4 o’clock in the morning on Thursday.
Most of a flat across the first and second floors of a converted end-of-terrace house was damaged by fire.
The brigade rescued the woman from the second floor, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
