A school in Jamaica which was destroyed by Hurricane Melissa is calling out to Londoners for help.

Anthony Howell is co-founder of South Starz Academy located in Ballards Valley, St Elizabeth.

Hurricane Melissa left the school, classrooms and resources destroyed.

But as Anthony tells Jacqui Kerr, they are not giving up and are hosting a “Night Full of Laughter” fundraiser in Waterloo to help rebuild South Starz Academy.

At the time of the hurricane, Kemi Akinola, Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council, issued this statement on behalf of the borough’s residents, who have a large affiliation with Jamaica.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jamaica and Cuba as they face the devastating impact of hurricane Melissa. We know that many residents in Wandsworth have close family and friends on the island, and this news will bring concern and sadness.

Wandsworth has a lively and vibrant Caribbean community who contribute so much to the life of our borough, and our thoughts go out to those affected.”
