A scheme designed at keeping traffic flowing during roadwork periods has raised more than £6 million for Surrey County Council.

Surrey’s Lane Rental Scheme launched in April 2021.

It works by charging utilities companies up to £1,500 daily for carrying out work on the county’s busiest roads at peak times.

The scheme has generated a surplus of £6.4 million in this time, and of this, £5.4 million has gone back into the road network.
