A prestigious blue plaque has been unveiled at the home of singer and performer Evelyn Dove in Battersea.

Born in 1902, she studied music and singing at the Royal Academy of Music before embarking on a “groundbreaking career.”

Evelyn became the first woman of African heritage to be broadcast on BBC Radio, three years after its launch in 1925.

The 1911 Census records her and her mother as living at 25a Barnard Road in Battersea.
