Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a moped and a pedestrian on Poynders Road just after midnight.
Two men were found injured but the pedestrian, believed to be a man in his 40s, died at the scene and officers are working to inform his family.
The moped rider is in a critical condition in hospital.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called at 12.02am this morning (Tuesday 10 December) to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Poynders Road and Clarence Avenue, SW4.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, members of our Tactical Response Unit, an incident response officer and London’s Air Ambulance.
“The first of our crews arrived in four minutes.
“Our crews treated two patients at the scene, before taking one to a London major trauma centre. Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the other patient died at the scene.”
