Danny Sturgeon is taking on the Thames Path 100 in May, a 100-mile ultramarathon, to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Danny lost his mother, Susan, to MND in 2012. She was in her late 50s.

Last year, he lost his father, John, to the same disease. He was in his 70s.

MND is the short term for motor neurone disease, which affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord and they help tell your muscles what to do.

MND is life-shortening, and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

Danny says running has become his way of coping with the loss of his parents, as he tells Chloe Norman.

Danny is trying to raise £1,000. You can find out more about his ultramarathon by clicking here.
