Police were called to Old Esher Road at around 5am.
The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
Detective Sergeant Rob Way said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances of this incident, including the possibility that the man was the victim of an assault. Understandably, this will have caused concern amongst the local community and I would like to reassure everyone that we are doing everything we can to establish what happened. I would urge anyone who has information that can help our investigation to please get in touch.”
