He was detained on suspicion of aggravated burglary, threats with an offensive weapon, false imprisonment and criminal damage.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident at the shop on Terrace Road around 8:30pm last Thursday to come forward.
The man has been released on conditional bail while the investigation continues.
