69 year old David Walker had just finished the 5km run when he suffered a cardiac arrest.

Volunteers and off-duty medics used the Parkrun’s defibrillator to revive him before he was taken to hospital for surgery.

He is now backing the Heart Starters campaign to fund more defibrillators; David says, “I don’t think I’d be here without them.”

Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating. When the heart stops beating, blood cannot properly circulate around the body and the blood flow to the brain and other organs is decreased.
