27-year-old Hawre Mohamed was arrested in East Croydon a few days after the assault in September, and sentenced to eight months in prison.
He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
The victim reported that Mohamed followed her through the carriage, touched her inappropriately, and attempted to kiss her.
British Transport Police praised the victim and urged passengers to report any sexual offences.
