23-year-old Joseph Sewell entered a barber shop on Station Road in April and stabbed a man in the back before fleeing the scene.
He was identified by the victim, whom he knew, and arrested later that day.
Sewell pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 30 months in jail and ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
The knife was forfeited and destroyed.
