Ryan Swan was charged after allegedly taking the knife into a Sainsbury’s Local in Central Road last August.
He was also charged with making or knowingly possessing a quantity of explosive black powder on or before that date.
The 42-year-old pleaded not guilty to the offences and is due to stand trial in September.
