Russell Noel Bennett admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to six horses that he kept in Ripley, between February and April 2024.
The 48-year-old was handed an 18-week sentence, down from 18 months, and ordered to do 300 hours of unpaid work.
Bennett was also banned from owning horses, ponies and donkeys for 20 years.
