The fire service was called to Bridge Road just after 6 this morning and 12 fire engines, as well as an aerial ladder platform were in use.
The fire broke out in a restaurant and flats – and there are no reports of any injuries.
Anyone who lives in the area is being asked to keep their doors and windows shut.
