Marline Anderson planted the sapling in the front garden of her home in Queenstown Road, and it has since grown into a beloved local landmark, bearing fruit all year round.
When Marline passed away earlier this year, local residents started a campaign to have the tree protected in her memory.
Wandsworth Council has now made a Tree Preservation Order, which aims to protect trees which make a significant impact on their local surroundings. These might be specific trees or woodlands that are deemed important to the environment, landscape, or public amenity.
