Crews spotted the smoke just after 7am last Wednesday and called the fire brigade who arrived and extinguished the blaze.

The council says although no one was injured, the truck was significantly damaged.

The authority is reminding residents that batteries must be taken to a dedicated recycling point and not placed with your usual rubbish.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “It’s vital we all familiarise ourselves with the recycling rules to prevent serious incidents like this.
