550 properties are having their energy ratings assessed to make sure they are above the lawful level.
Council officers are targeting homes currently rated EPC band F or G as these ratings make it unlawful for landlords to let the properties.
Landlords who fail to comply with the requirements face financial penalties of up to £5,000.
