The Wildlife Trusts have bought the 9,000 acre Rothbury Estate with the aim of introducing more nature-friendly farming and restore bogs.
It had been valued at £30 billion.
More than 25,000 people made donations, with public support bringing in £17-million.
The Richmond resident has thanked them for their help.
