The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust has opened The Royal Marsden Centre for Cancer Genomics at its Sutton site.

It’s described as a new world leading genomics and diagnostics innovation facility that is the first facility in the NHS designed to develop and deliver a new generation of cancer diagnostics known as composite biomarker testing.

By combining different types of patient and tumour data with machine learning to build a fuller picture of a patient’s cancer, this testing will help more NHS patients across the UK to access clinical trials and more personalised treatments.

Genomics has become a fundamental part of cancer care, helping clinicians diagnose disease earlier and match patients to the most effective therapies and clinical trials.

Jackie’s Meena Iyer went along to the centre’s launch and spoke with Dr Angela George about how the Royal Marsden and genomics are leading the way in cancer treatment.

Former cancer patient at the Royal Marsden, Elaine Nangle, took part in a genomics biomarker trial. She feels it’s a game-changer.
