They also say the 44-year-old took his own life at his home in Chiswick on Tuesday after months of immense pressure caused by a Metropolitan Police investigation.

He was arrested in June in connection with a 2017 incident where a woman was pushed into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge.

The 33-year-old victim suffered minor injuries and CCTV footage was released by the Met Police shortly after in a bid to find the suspect.

In a statement, the family said the force “were quick to expose Nick to suspicion and painfully slow to remove it. They failed him. And Nick’s family will now live with the consequences of that failure for the rest of our lives.

“Those who knew Nick will remember him for everything that made him the wonderful man he was. We will love him, and miss him, every day.”
