Natural England has submitted a proposal to the Secretary of State for Environment for approval.
The area principally covers parts of the North Downs and Greensand Ridge.
It was first designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958 and was redesignated as a National Landscape in 2023.
If confirmed, the proposal would extend the existing Surrey Hills National Landscape by 30.5%.
There is no set timescale for this decision, and the proposed extension areas gain no new status unless and until it is confirmed.
