Signs are going up alongside Richmond’s grass verges to explain why they haven’t been cut back.

The council says they are necessary to explain the benefits to people who prefer more manicured streets.

Research shows that allowing verges to grow for longer gives native plants and wildflowers the opportunity to flower and set seed.

Urban streets receive up to seven cuts a year but some residents say the longer verges attract more rubbish.
