Spelthorne Borough Council is warning residents to take care over what they dispose of in their bins after a bin lorry fire earlier.

The authority says a waste collection vehicle blaze was quickly brought under control by crews, preventing serious damage.

Residents are being urged not to put portable BBQs, vapes, e-cigarettes, batteries or electrical items in bins as they can cause fires.

BBQs must be fully doused with water and cooled before disposal, with residents thanked for helping keep crews safe.
