The funding aims to reduce overcrowding and end “corridor care”, with the department treating around 250 mainly local patients a day.
Work is expected to begin next spring, with calls for further investment across the wider hospital site.
Leaders in the area say more long-term funding is still needed to ensure modern care at St Helier.
