Kingston Council has won a Silver national award for a strategy to tackle violence against women and girls.

The plan was developed with survivors of abuse, working alongside the council and local charity Voices of Hope.

Judges praised the approach for putting real lived experience at the centre of the work.

The council says it will now focus on improving support services, safe accommodation and working more closely with police.
