Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service called police to a house in Furze Road at 09:20am yesterday following concerns for the welfare of a woman.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of death is yet to be confirmed. A post-mortem examination and formal identification will take place in due course.
Enquiries are ongoing to locate and notify her next of kin.
Officers arrested three people at the scene on suspicion of murder.
Detective Sergeant Suzanne Harris, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the victim and her family at this difficult time.
“While we recognise the concern an incident like this will cause, I’d like to reassure locals that we believe this to be an isolated incident. Residents can expect to see an increase in police presence over the coming days and must not hesitate to speak to police on the ground if they have any questions or concerns.
“In the meantime, my team and are working at pace to piece together the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and are asking anyone with information to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
