Luke Rapela works on Non-Emergency Transport Services ambulances and is based in New Malden.

He was driving through Battersea earlier this year when a woman ran out of a house and into the road in front of him.

When he got out to help her, he saw a man approaching him with a knife around 50cm long.

Luke, who managed to calm the situation and call police, tells Jackie News says his reaction was completely instinctive.

Luke, who hopes to become a paramedic, has now been recognised with a Chief Executive’s commendation.
