Reigate and Banstead Borough Council started investigating Gerry Sherard in 2018.
He was awarded the means tested benefits after claiming he was not working or receiving any other income and didn’t own a property.
Council investigators later established Sherard owned a property in France and one in Surrey which was sold for £250,000 in 2019.
He had undeclared bank accounts and investigators also identified more than £32,900 in cash deposits over a 3-year period.
Transactions also included private jet travel and private school fees.
The Council’s losses due to Mr Sherard’s fraud declarations totalled just under £30,000.
He pleaded guilty to five of the seven counts in court and is due to be sentenced at the end of May.
