Private tenants at a block of flats in Kew have been issued Section 21 eviction notices just weeks before they are due to be abolished.

Landlord, Dorrington, says it notified residents of its intention to sell the properties in February last year.

Westminster City Council has purchased the flats as temporary accommodation for its own homeless residents.

The authority says it purchased the block on the basis the flats were empty, and half of the properties are.

Richmond Council leader, Gareth Roberts, says he is seeking immediate discussions with Westminster.

A Westminster City Council spokesperson said:

“We will be making an offer to two elderly residents to stay on at Garden Court if they would like after the building comes under Westminster City Council ownership, and of course we apologise for any upset caused.”
