The cost of fixing pothole-damaged roads in England and Wales has climbed to a record £18.6 billion.

Research from the Asphalt Industry Alliance suggests they’re being resurfaced on average just once every 97 years.

£850,000 is being spent on tackling potholes across Sutton, with 500 repaired so far this year, 77 of them critical.

David Giles from the AIA says the state of the network’s a “national disgrace”.

The Government says it’s raised the funding level to help councils ‘fix the pothole plague’.
