Spelthorne Council is cracking down on shared houses, now requiring planning permission for any home rented to three or more people.

Smaller Homes of Multiple Occupancy that didn’t need approval before will now be checked across the borough.

Councillors say the move is designed tow help protect neighbourhoods and respond to local concerns.

Permission is still required for larger HMOs for seven or more tenants.
