About 17,000 patients rely on plasma each year to fight infections or during major treatment and emergencies.

The UK currently produces around 23% of the plasma it needs, with donations collected in Twickenham, Birmingham and Reading.

More donors are needed so the country does not have to rely heavily on supplies imported from the United States.
