A wildlife charity in Shepperton is asking schools not to undertake duck and chick hatching projects.

The Swan Sanctuary says the popular classroom initiative may seem educational but comes with hidden risks and ethical concerns.

The charity says handling chicks can cause stress for the birds as their bones are still developing and their immune systems are immature.

It also says these birds cannot often be rehomed and some end up in public ponds where they cannot survive.
