East Surrey Council is being created from next April following Devolution, with Surrey County Council and the 11 borough and district councils being abolished.
Moving from a two-tier to a unitary model, East Surrey Council will oversee all services in Elmbridge, Epsom & Ewell, Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead, and Tandridge.
Liberal Democrat Leader and Kingston & Surbiton MP, Sir Ed Davey said:
“After years of Conservative failure here in Surrey, it is time for a fresh start.
“Liberal Democrats will deliver the real change people are crying out for with our bold plan to fix the NHS, cut energy bills and tackle the sewage crisis in our rivers.
“The Conservative Party has run out of road here, and Nigel Farage’s Reform offer no solutions to the problems people face.
“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats in May is a vote for a strong local champion who will deliver the change Surrey needs.”
Liberal Democrat MP for Epsom and Ewell Helen Maguire said:
“May’s elections are vital for determining the future of our county. By voting Liberal Democrat, you’re voting for a local champion who will fix crucial services and fight tooth and nail for your community.”
Liberal Democrat MP for Dorking and Horley Chris Coghlan said:
“Surrey’s Conservative Council has appallingly managed local services and traumatised SEND families. They must go.”
Liberal Democrat MP for Esher and Walton Monica Harding said:
“East Surrey desperately needs change and people are rightly turning away from the Conservatives. It is the Liberal Democrats who provide the antidote to the incompetent Tories and Reform’s brand of poisonous politics.”
