Richmond Council says the business rates issue is “not a pub only crisis.”

The authority’s welcomed the government’s u-turn on its decision to raise business rates for pubs.

However, councillors say they remain concerned about the apparent lack of provision for other parts of the hospitality sector.

They say the rates reversal should include independent cafes, small hotels, and restaurants.

The council is calling on the government to extend the u-turn further.
