The annual event aims to raise awareness about the disease, encourage its prevention, and highlight ways to address the epidemic.

One woman who is doing just that is 43-year-old Janette Potgieter from Surbiton.

She’s preparing to row 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean with two friends to try and raise £100,000 for Cancer Research UK .
