The council has been given the go ahead to implement a Lane Rental Scheme across the borough.
The authority says it will allow it to tackle delays and keep buses moving.
Lambeth is one of the first London Boroughs to get permission from the Department of Transport to implement the scheme which aims to reduce disruption by incentivising organisations like utility companies to carry out works when roads are less busy.
Bosses hope this will also encourage companies to reduce the duration of works and tackle areas of the borough where there are high levels of unplanned work.
