Pothole compensation claims in Britain have spiked by 90 % in three years, with Surrey remaining a hotspot.

It’s reported one claim is recorded for roughly every 2 miles of road in the county, one of the highest rates in the UK.

Croydon also has one of the highest pothole densities in the country.

The RAC says 53,000 claims were submitted to 177 councils last year, compared with nearly 28,000 in 2021.

But just 26 % of claims made in 2024 resulted in payouts.
