The Met Police say new powers are helping protect domestic abuse victims in Sutton and Croydon.

Since last year, officers have issued 219 emergency notices and 180 court-backed orders to keep abusers away from victims.

The scheme also covers non-physical abuse, including controlling or coercive behaviour, and victims can apply directly to family court.

Commander Clair Kelland says the orders are proving essential in preventing abuse from escalating and ensuring offenders face swift action.
